Ticol Tcl - IDE - Using Notepad++

Recommended Editor and IDE for Ticol Notepad++ is the recommended Editor and IDE tor Ticol Tcl. The IDE (Integrated Developement Environment) is not the same thing as the Command line Interface (CLI). The Ticol CLI can be used to load, run and view scripts but not to edit them. You can, however, enter single line scripts from the CLI, even if these are comprised of multiple commands A small amount of configuration is required in order to use the Notepad++ syntax highlighter and to be able to run scripts   Top

Configuring Syntax Highlighting

• Open Notepad++
• Load a TCL file within Notepad++
• Go to Language and Select TCL if not already selected
• Go to Settings -> Style Configurator
• Scroll down the "Language" list on the left until you can select TCL
• In the next colum to the right, "Style", select "INSTRUCTION WORD"
• You will notice a range of "Default Keywords". These can be left as they are unless you wish to perform an advanced configuration
  
  
  
  
• In the "User-defined keywords" edit area, paste in a list of Ticol keywords from this text file
• Click "Save & Close"
• Check that commands in the loaded file are being highlighted correctly

Configuring Run Shortcuts

Executing Ticol Scripts from Notepad++

• Click the "Run" menu option on the Notepad++ main menu
• Select "Run..."
  
  
  
  
• Click the elipsis button [...] to browse to the location of ticol.exe and select it
• Add a space to the resulting command line and append the following, wrapped in double-quotes: "$(FULL_CURRENT_PATH)"
  If you copied the shortcut from this or another webpage, remove the double quotes and re-enter manually
  You will need to scroll to the right to see the command as the author made the edit dialog far too small
• You should now have a command something like
     C:\path\to\ticol.exe "$(FULL_CURRENT_PATH)"
• Click "Save..."
  
  
  
• Enter an appropriate name, e.g. "Ticol Tcl"
• If desired select a shortcut such as CTRL+F1
• Change the shortcut if you see a "conflict" message
• Click "OK" to close and save
• You should now be able to click "Run" to run the current script using your shortcut or the menu
• You may need to add /NA to the command string to prevent autoexec.tcl from running, e.g.
      C:\path\to\ticol.exe "$(FULL_CURRENT_PATH)" /na
• You may also need to add /PAUSE to halt the screen before closing
      C:\path\to\ticol.exe "$(FULL_CURRENT_PATH)" /na /pause
• Note that command-line editing is non-existent via the menus, if you wish to change the command line you will need to delete the shortcut and recreate from scratch
• Note that if you change the path in the "Run" dialog this may break the shortcut in unusual ways
  If the new path is invalid but *.tcl files are registered with ticol.exe then the script will run via File Association but without some of the arguments
